VIACOM – Showcase 2016
We are Fans First
Challenge
Ahead of the MTV EMAs, VIACOM delivers an annual showcase, sharing the networks biggest channels and properties to an exclusive audience. We were tasked with building the event from the ground up.
Approach
We decided this year's Showcase could be brought to life as a gallery space, populated with bespoke installations and artworks that told the story of each of the channels and properties.
For example, to highlight the fact that SpongeBob SquarePants is translated into 30+ languages, we built an installation that projected sound in narrow columns. Depending on where you stood, each language could be heard in isolation. Next to this, display cases housed SpongeBob consumer products from around the world.
To showcase our mobile offering, we commissioned French illustrator Mcbess to create a display wall, housing mobile devices that guests could interact with.
An A-Z of our shows were brought to life in a gallery of images, created by 26 illustrators. Live EMA social conversations were interpreted by a custom ‘dancing man’ artwork, ‘Choreographika’ created by Silent Studios (see video).
We brought other facets of our network to the guests in VR experiences, showreels and even an Ex On The Beach life drawing class, with students from the Rotterdam Piet Zwart Institute drawing the stars live.
The gallery was constructed around a central stage where Bob Bakish, CEO of VIACOM, delivered his keynote speech. Later the event was closed by a live performance from Tinie Tempah.
