VIACOM – Showcase 2018
The Art of Entertainment

Challenge
Ahead of the 2018 MTV EMAs came VIACOM’s annual showcase, sharing the best of the network’s properties to an exclusive audience. We were tasked with creating the event in the EMAs host city, Bilbao.

Approach
Bilbao is synonymous with the The Guggenheim, art and creativity, therefore we decided to bring the showcase to life as an interactive art exhibition. Bilbao also sports a number of excellent exhibition spaces, giving us the perfect gallery backdrop to the event. The event consisted of bespoke installations and artworks, each telling a story of VIACOM’s iconic shows and characters.

To highlight the fact that SpongeBob had just turned twenty, we created an exhibition of archive imagery, original cels and hand drawn pencil sketches. These were laid out in three large cubes that guests could navigate and explore.

An interactive slime machine was built to showcase Nickelodeon’s famous green gunge. Costumes from some of Paramount’s biggest movies were on display, including: Eddie Murphy’s Detroit Lions varsity jacket from Beverly Hills Cop; a Tom Cruise uniform from Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol; and Will Ferrell aka. Ron Burgundy’s famous suit from Anchorman. A Turtles AR area allowed guests to create bespoke gifs to share across their own social platforms and a sound recording booth gave them an insight into the layers of audio required to create the perfect soundscape.

The gallery was constructed around a central stage where Bob Bakish, CEO of VIACOM, delivered his keynote speech. Later the event was closed by a live performance from Little Mix.
